Marnus Labuschagne Left Out from Australian ODI Lineup to Face Team India

Labuschagne finds himself omitted from the three-game ODI series against India, with high-performing Queensland teammate Matt Renshaw receiving a shock call-up.

Performance Issues Lead to Omission

Labuschagne has been omitted from the ODI side following managing only a single run in his two batting efforts during the top-end series against South Africa in August. He has a highest score of forty-seven in his most recent ten ODI batting appearances.

The 31-year-old has played 68 ODIs and amassed 1,871 runs at an average of 34.64, but will now continue to press his claims a Test recall ahead of the Ashes beginning in Perth on November 21.

Renshaw's Return and Other Squad Updates

Recent performances suggest of a resurgence with 160 for Queensland in the domestic first-class competition this week, while Renshaw made a century for the Bulls in the same game against Tasmania.

The left-hander may to make his white-ball international debut in the upcoming series against India after previously being selected in an ODI squad in 2022.

The left-hander has played 14 Tests with the most recent appearance in India in 2023 but is also aiming for a return to the Test team as Australia search for a fix to their top-order woes.

Pace Returns and Injury News

Fast bowler Mitchell Starc returns for the ODI series against India after being rested since starring for Australia in the whitewash of West Indies in July.

Big Bash star Mitch Owen may earn his ODI debut after sustaining a head injury in the build-up to Australia’s last 50-over series against South Africa.

ODI captain Pat Cummins remains on the sidelines as he aims to recover from a spinal issue by the time to lead Australia in the first Ashes Test in November.

Team Announcement Strategy and Schedule

Australia have announced a squad for only the initial two T20 matches against India with the upcoming Ashes series, although Glenn Maxwell will miss all of the five-match series due to a wrist injury suffered in New Zealand.

Mitch Marsh will lead both the ODI and T20 sides after scoring a hundred in the final game against New Zealand to clinch a 2-0 series win last week.

“Selectors have announced a squad for the ODI series and first two games of the T20 series as there will be some management through the back end of the series as players get ready for the summer through domestic first-class matches,” Australia chair of selectors George Bailey said.
“The majority of the T20 squad will stay as a group as it’s an important period in the build towards the T20 World Cup next year, however we are trying to strike a balance to ensure we simultaneously prepare specific players for the Test matches ahead.”

Australia’s three-match ODI series against India starts on October 19 in Perth, before the opponents play five T20 internationals from 29 October.
