One 14-year-old youth was discovered deceased only a few days after being wrongly blamed of stealing the cremated remains of a deceased baby during a break-in, a coroner's inquiry has learned.

Tragic Finding

Kai Lloyd's parents discovered his body in his room at his Flintshire home on November 19th, 2021.

Untrue Accusations Start

The inquest heard how his mother received a communication on November 8th, 2021 via social media, from a individual asking if Kai was her offspring. The communication stated: "Tell him appreciation for burgling my apartment."

In a statement read to the court, the mother said the woman had been in the media, claiming her infant's remains had been taken in a break-in - a claim which was untrue.

Law Enforcement Investigation

An official inquiry from police later concluded the supposed break-in complainant had "lied to police" and "it now appears that the items was never taken in the beginning".

Media reports about the supposed taken ashes attracted social media responses, and although the teenager was not identified in the posts, his mother said individuals "knew it was him".

The "social media content were really distressing", she stated.

Mental Health Effect

She added that Kai had been identified with mild ADHD, and as part of that disorder, other individuals' views really mattered to him.

"This must have affected him severely," she commented, "especially when this was not true".

Kai was detained at home, but no evidence was found. He was taken to a law enforcement facility and later released pending further inquiry.

Authorities said they would be in touch, the hearing learned, but had not contacted the relatives by the time of his passing.

Isolation and Worry

His mother said her son "became isolated" after the detention and "would keep asking me whether I had heard anything from the authorities", because his ADHD meant sometimes "a minute could seem like much longer".

When she spoke to him about the alleged incident, she said her child told her he had gone into the residence because the woman who resided there had said he could use the toilet whenever he needed, but denied removing anything.

Digital Bullying

In a combined testimony between her and her spouse, the mother said her child was being harassed online after the accusations.

The proceedings heard that one 19-year-old urged the teenager to kill himself.

She had no concerns on the evening before he passed away, describing how she had listened to him "laughing and joking".

She described him as a "caring, loving" young man, and said her "relatives is completely devastated".

He had been "obviously concealing his concerns", she stated, adding that he could not stand to have anybody "think bad of him".

Educational Response

The hearing heard from educational personnel at Connah's Quay High School.

On November 8th, she "heard some boys talking that Kai had been detained and that was the initial I heard".

"He told me... he'd was innocent," she added.

After the conversation, the staff member said she rang Kai's parents' telephone and provided a voicemail saying she had spoken to Kai about the accusations.

The court learned his parents said they never got that communication.

Official Finding

Lead coroner told the hearing he would wait for reports regarding what improvements had been made to handling suspects with ADHD, before deciding whether he should make a avoidance of subsequent deaths report.

Providing a descriptive conclusion, he stated: "Approximately November 8th, 2021, unsupported accusations were made against the teenager, a 14-year-old individual.

"Likely falsehoods were afterwards embellished and exaggerated through the medium of online networks.

"On 11 November, he was interviewed by the authorities and following his interview he was released while investigations proceeded."

The official concluded: "There is no evidence that the actions or failures of any organization caused or added to his passing and although it was the outcome of a personal act it is not possible to discern his purpose."
