The Retail Giant Pins Hopes on Women's Fashion to Enhance Fall Sales

Following a digital breach hampered its summer season results, the brand is banking on apparel to improve its fall prospects.

A Prada-esque, decorated, smoke V-neck cardigan (priced at £46), a faux leather trenchcoat with a value of £90 – substantially less than similar luxury options – and a £36 above-the-knee creased piece inspired by popular trends are expected to launch in outlets immediately.

“It's possible for us to be more adventurous because even as we continue to excel in the older demographic, we’ve gained additional customers from the middle-aged demographic,” said a brand representative.

The company is depending on womenswear, which has enjoyed growing sales and credibility over the past couple of years, to drive a comeback after a significant cyber-attack that disrupted operations over multiple periods and is estimated to have cost sizable profit setbacks.

The aim is to ensure that as a shopper visits a location, ‘the majority of the items are unfamiliar for her’. The rest of the segment consists of staple items – including simple T-shirts, fitted denim, go-to trousers, and additional garments that stay always on offer.

The brand meticulously evaluates fashions for everyday use, making sure that particularly bold pieces are accessible. The comeback of the short skirt, as an instance, is represented in the line, but always in styles that are manageable and practical.

Recognizing what trends to ignore is equally important as identifying which to embrace. The priority is on softer colors – including rose, maroon, and brown – which are considered more appealing and versatile, rather than harsher colors that can be difficult to incorporate.

Leather-look appears prominently on coats, outfits, pieces, and shoes. Earlier this year, the brand experienced a notable hit with affordable slip-ons, selling a large quantity of pairs and tapping into the current appeal for practical shoes. Investment in this category has been raised noticeably for the upcoming season.

In denim, tall fits still dominate, with value remaining a key factor. Although budget options are crucial, there is increasing potential for moderately increased price points when the item warrants it.

To enable quicker responses to consumer needs, the company has significantly moved sourcing from distant locations to more local manufacturing in accessible markets, reducing delivery periods and increasing responsiveness.
