Together Is Now Streaming, and It Might Make or Break Your Relationship.

We present a dare for long-term couples who appreciate the horror genre: Sit down with your partner and view Together. This critically acclaimed 2025 movie just made its launch on a streaming platform via Hulu. Outwardly, it may seem like typical biological terror, but beneath Together exists a deep contemplation about how we choose to love one another.

An Introductory Film Investigating Partnership Complexities

Together represents the first full-length movie for director Michael Shanks. It features Dave Franco and Alison Brie as Tim and Millie, an unmarried couple that have remained a couple for a decade. Having wed in reality in 2017, the two stars contribute a special spark to their portrayals, skillfully embodying both the good and bad of a committed partnership.

The plot begins when the couple move from the urban environment to the countryside for professional reasons. A commonly used narrative setup, of course, but that’s largely where the tropes end. Together becomes as much a examination of mental states of the pair’s relationship as it is a body horror flick.

A Supernatural Catalyst

While hiking near their new home, a storm hits, and the two discover an underground cave. After being trapped overnight there and eventually escaping, a supernatural entity starts to affect the pair. This force creates a paranormal intimacy between them that goes well past simple connection.

The entire film is a slow burn horror experience, interspersing bits of hallucinatory nightmares, disturbing (but tastefully done) biological grotesqueries, and authentically humorous interactions (sometimes in the middle of something disturbing). Michael Shanks weaves these elements together expertly and delivers them in a gradually swelling sense of impending doom.

Complex Characterizations

A significant portion of Together is exclusively Brie and Franco, and they masterfully render numerous complexities to the partnership at the film's core. Her self-assurance and emotional bond is suffering due to a distance. Her subconscious resentment of Tim for his hesitance to chase only his failing musical ambitions slowly bubbles to the surface.

Tim, on the other hand experiences isolation and separated by Millie, who’s the cause they’ve left the city and far away from his network of friends. He fears the notion of completely losing his individual identity in Millie. This fear is intensified by the reality he can’t drive and relies on Millie for transportation.

The director's cleverest decision is that he refrains from painting Tim or Millie the obvious villain.

The couple confront the kind of problems that are inherent in long-term unions a decade in. At their core, they continue to care for one another. They share moments of joy, provide solace, and share intimately at times. But beneath it all, there’s an persistent feeling of questioning about their relationship.

Thematic Depth

While the paranormal elements in Together act as a metaphor for these fears of excessive reliance and totally devoting oneself to a partner, the metaphor avoids being clumsy or heavy-handed. Instead, these visceral horror elements offer a perfect parallel to the character-driven drama. Both the frights and the fights enhance each other in a mutually beneficial way.

A Debated Finale

Together’s final act, which is best experienced firsthand, has sparked debate on the film’s ultimate message about codependent relationships. Accounts suggest that those not in relationships have understood the narrative as a powerful case for staying single. On the other hand, a few pairs having disagreements found that the film ended up guiding them to reconcile.

Whether you’re single or coupled up, your own response could act as a great barometer of how you view relationships. Will the finale inspire a sense of discomfort and fear, or a uplifting feeling of optimism? Will you recognize your own traits in one of the characters and feel frustration, or simply turn to your partner and utter, “We could get through that together”?

Whatever the case may be, Together is an exploration you can experience at this very moment.

Together is streaming on Hulu's platform now.
